What is Cancer

Many of us have heard about it, have friends or relatives affected by it, but do we really know what is cancer.

Cancer is usually defined as a disease resulting from changes in a group of normal cells within the body leading to uncontrolled growth and forming a lump called a tumour, (except for cancer of the blood).  If left untreated, tumours can grow and spread, quite rapidly in many cases, into surrounding normal tissue, or to other parts of the body via lymphatic systems and the bloodstream.  This can subsequently severely impact the functioning of the digestive, nervous and circulatory systems.

Various research organisations have determined that there are around 200 different types of cancer.  Cancer can occur anywhere in the body; most commonly for women, it occurs at the breast, while for men, it is the prostate.  There are also high incidences of lung cancer and colon cancer for both men and women. Other main cancer types are blood cancer, gastrointestinal cancer, skin cancer, and lung cancer.

While conventional therapies for cancer have limited success, treatments such as chemotherapy tend to have many negative side effects and do not address the root cause of the cancer.  Invariably the cancer returns with further devastating effects and in some cases may be considered as only prolonging the inevitable.

This site will discuss the pros and cons of conventional therapies and share information about the use of natural therapies to combat and to potentially cure cancer.
